Stage 8 Locking Fastener

Stage 8 Locking Fastener

What it is: Stage 8 Locking Fastener

What it does: Prevents fasteners from backing off

Why we like it: The Stage 8 fastener system uses a groove machined into either the head of the bolt or nut which secures an indexing tab that contacts a nearby feature, preventing the fastener from rotating. A circlip is installed in the machined groove to secure the indexing tab. The indexing tabs are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes to suit different applications including a half-moon shape which secures header/manifold fasteners as well as a triangular type which can be bent if necessary to contact a nearby feature. There are also locking tabs to secure two bolts together for a circular bolt arrangement that could be used on a prop shaft or axle shaft. The Stage 8 fastener appears to be a great solution for fasteners in high-vibration areas or that experience wide temperature ranges and consequently continue to loosen and cause performance/reliability issues. Stay tuned for a test of the Stage 8 fastener on Tune2Win.com
